The Parthenon Lodge Benevolent Trust Scholarship is a community‑focused bursary established by Parthenon Lodge No. 267 to support graduating secondary‑school students in Chatham‑Kent as they pursue post‑secondary education at a college, university, or in the skilled trades. Funded through the Lodge’s Benevolent Trust, the program reflects Freemasonry’s long‑standing commitment to education, charity, and service by providing financial assistance to students who demonstrate need, good character, and a commitment to their community. Through this scholarship, Parthenon Lodge seeks to make a meaningful local impact by helping deserving students overcome financial barriers and take their next steps toward personal growth and future success.
Bruce B. Foster was a highly respected Canadian educator and Freemason whose legacy is deeply rooted in the Chatham Masonic District. Formally known as Bruce Brown Foster (1906–1992), he spent his professional life in education, serving as a teacher and later as Principal of Ridgetown High School, where he was widely regarded for his leadership and commitment to student development. In Freemasonry, he rose to the highest levels of service, becoming Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario from 1969 to 1971, and previously serving as District Deputy Grand Master of the Chatham District (1943–1944). He was a strong advocate for Masonic education and mentorship, emphasizing learning, character, and community responsibility throughout his Masonic career.
In recognition of his lifelong dedication to education, service, and Freemasonry, the Chatham Masonic District Bruce B. Foster Charitable (Memorial) Foundation was established in his name. The Foundation provides scholarships and bursaries to financially challenged students pursuing post‑secondary education within the District, ensuring that Foster’s values continue to benefit future generations. The scholarship reflects his enduring belief that education is a cornerstone of personal growth and community strength, making his impact both historical and ongoing.
